Mercedes 2000-2010 – Decade In Review

Mercedes Benz is ‘one of the world’s oldest and most celebrated car manufacturers’. I’ve always driven a Mercedes and I am a strong believer in that statement. From the year 2000 to today, they have maintained their reputation and won numerous awards to support it.

In recent years, Mercedes have ventured ‘off-road’ with a range of SUVs and vehicles suitable for rougher terrain. These efforts have won many awards – the legendary G-Class won first place in the “luxury off-roader” category, the M-Class achieved the same ranking in the “luxury SUV” category, and the multi-talented G-Class Unimog (although appearing a little like an army truck), won the “special-purpose vehicle” category. It’s not hard to see why the G-Class range is one of the most popular and highly acclaimed in the world of off-roading – not only do you drive in comfort over all sorts of terrain, but you do it in style and complete luxury as well!

That success shows no sign of slowing. This year, ‘Off Road’ magazine have awarded the title of “Off-Roader of the Year” to the G-Class, following its triumphs in 2001, 2003, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. Other notable achievements include being declared “superstar” or off-road vehicles by readers of ’4Wheel Fun’, and being voted “the world’s best off-road vehicle” no less than 14 times by readers of the ‘Auto Motor Und Sport’.

Big and beautiful Mercedes cars don’t appeal to everyone – my sister much prefers the S-Class saloon model for its style, comfort, safety and ‘green’ selling points. This range has also been living in the limelight, winning an environmental certificate in 2005 and being voted “Fleet News Luxury Car of the Year” in 2007. Mercedes apply this level of quality to every range they manufacture – the differences in size, shape and performance just mean that there’s something for everyone.

Whether you want to buy a used Mercedes Benz or if you’d rather splash out on a new one, you won’t be sorry. The driving pleasure you get from a Mercedes cannot be matched – that’s not to mention the luxurious comfort and style they offer. With sales of Mercedes cars going up by 13% even during an unstable economic climate, it’s easy to see that people are still putting their trust in them. Over the past decade, Mercedes’ quality, comfort, safety and style have all improved dramatically – and that’s from a car that was already ahead of its game.
